Dragon*Con was almost entirely comprised of uninterrupted awesome for me.
Forthwith, the short list of Things That Were Somewhat Less Than Awesome:
- Thinking I'd lost my glasses when I couldn't find them while unpacking today
- Seeing 7:00am four of the five days (corollary: this was immediately followed by my having the hot tub at the hotel all to myself, which was a nice consolation prize to being up really fuckin' early)
- Paying the stupidity tax for having forgotten to bring my cell phone charger and needing to procure a replacement
- The service at SEAR, the Marriott's upscale dining establishment
The much, much lengthier list of Things That Were Awesome:
- Making excellent time on both the drive up and back (big thanks to
critus and his mininvan, "Pants")
- Seeing friends whom I'd not encountered in years, both of the "I expect to see you" and the "Holy shit, what are you doing here?!?" variety, and getting to spend almost enough time with almost enough of them
- Putting faces with names for a great many folks I'd only known remotely, and discovering that, without exception, they are great people to know
- Seeing the Bat Signal appear over Adam West's head
- Punting gnomes (and one dwarf)
- Humping a muppet
- Not actually hearing George Takei say "Oh my," but being able to see him think it really loudly
- Free-range chiropractic
- Discovering exactly how refreshing a breeze a leaf blower can generate
- Being "Troublesome to Lesbians" and an "Indigenous Hench-person" (ie: sherpa)
- Hot girls who say they want to be my friend
- Karaoke as both an appetizer and a desert course
- Winning bets involving boobs (this falls solidly into the "well, DUH" category, but there were two key events of this nature)
- Being told to shut up by 800 or so people. Simultaneously.
- Avery Brooks in some really wild flannel pajama pants
- Inadvertently flirting with some celebrity's knee while trying to order a sandwich
There was much, much more, but it's generally a big, happy blur (even the parts where nothing like a Long Island Iced Tea was involved).

Still good to see familiar faces though, even if only briefly!
Where is this karaoke? We were thinking that the one thing D*C lacks is an official karaoke area set up 24 hours so you don't have to wander off into the Atlanta night.

the karaoke place was one block up the hill from the sheraton - as you approach the sheraton, if you were not to cross the street diagonally to go to the sheraton, but instead turn right and go up the hill, there's a diner-type multi-level restaurant a block up. they had great sandwiches and a really good selection of karaoke. i did "creep" as the appetizer and "margaritaville" for dessert; the latter earned me adoring looks from one very cute patron and an equal measure of "stop making eyes at my girlfriend" from her beau.... bro, if you don't want your girlfriend smiling at me, all you have to do is look better than sing better, and right now, you're 0 for 2.
