Do you think that going further down the current path (ie: with McCain) is the right idea, then? How would you propose to fix it?
I think that, in the main, your list of grievances: colluding with the AMA and big pharma, creating massive entitlement programs like medicare/caid and free drugs for seniors, and allowing the ABA to sue anyone with deep pockets - with the exception of Medicare and some aspects of the senior drug program - is right.
If big pharma/insurance didn't have the monopoly (and therefore, the money) to lobby for ever more preferential treatment, John Q. Fuckstick might not be getting the shaft as badly as he is... true or false?
I concur. However, I think we can both agree that a reduction in government is only going to happen via, shall we say, traumatic circumstances. Absent that, I'll vote for the guy who sucks less (as opposed to your desire to vote for the candidate who would speed up the shit-hits-the-fan situation).
Actually, that is what I said. Implosion is the only thing gonna right this ship, but I wasn't going to get that subversive when the person who asked my opinion is 17 and will have to figure that out on her own. I'm subversive, but not a monster.
BUT, the point of my post was that we're broken and the solutions being spouted by one side to not fit the evidence. So I'm voting the other way--in other words: vote for the guy that sucks less. I am no Obama fangirl, I will vote for him because it will do less damage, and stands the best chance of some steps in the right direction.
So does this mean you're voting for Obama or Palin for president [1]? As to who sucks less, I dunno...Palin looks like she should could give a mean [2]...nm *eg* Maybe it should have been Bill Clinton/Palin on one ticket.
[1] Given the reasonable possibility that McCain won't survive the statistics of old age.
[2] Intentional impropriety aside, seriously...mayor of Fuckstick, AK then governor of AK? And who is a demonstrated liar and hypocrite? With zero foreign policy experience? And an ardent religionist, to boot?
I agree with ikilled007, ultimately. Neither candidate is going to be worth a shit. As for right to bitch, I reserve that right whether I vote or not.
In this particular case, though, I think a vote for McCain = a vote for President Palin and oh, fuck that for a big hairy joke so it's important to vote as many times as you have to in order for that not to happen ;) I do *not* want someone with that little experience and that much of a religious axe to grind sitting across the table from Putin's fistpuppet Medvedev, facing down Achminedebullshit, Kim Jong Ill's [sic] successor, Raul Castro, or even beginning to pretend to understand the Latin American political/military theatre. Chavez and Morales would eat her for breakfast and have room left for the rest of our Executive branch. The only thing she promises for the economy is a gift for entitlement spending, just according to her own peculiar definition of entitled. I can't begin to imagine any good she could stand to accomplish in the name of trade and industry, unless it's oil. I think we've had enough of what's good for oil, eh?
On the flip side, here's my "optimistic" view of an Obama presidency. He'll inherent 12 years of GOP snafus, include two unresolved wars, strained relations with most of the globe, an economy on a guided tour of the crapper, and domestic woes out the wazzoo. He will fail to cure what ails Black America. He will bring no change. Our Dem-led Congress, successfully whitewashed as "do nothing" thanks to savvy GOP game-riggers, will still be toothless and stymied by, if anything, a greatly energized Republican opposition (they'll have nothing to lose and *everything* to gain). Unable to pass any worthwhile legislation for Obama to sign, he'll be a lame duck. Mid-term, when, not if, the Republicans take back Congress as part of the backlash of the energized right, Obama will then have the luxury of vetoing stuff instead. At least I don't think the right wing will get a veto proof majority. Then we can look forward to 12 more years of right-wing rule because they can then point at the obvious failures of the left. Hell, we even had a black man and nothing was fixed! Yes, they will find a way to stoop *just* that low.
As for the good Obama *could* do...does anyone recall him ever mentioning anything at all about undoing a single one of GWB's executive orders? Any strong speeches on the need for repealing repressive fascist legislation like the Military Commissions Act?
I did warn people that I bitch about politics. However, I seldom bitch as much as flemco does, so if you want a daily dose of nice incendiary links, I can recommend his ass (along with rudepundit's rss feed).

Mmm, cynicism.
Anyways, my understanding (almost certainly incomplete, possibly flawed, certainly biased) means I'll vote for the candidate I vote for.
My stance typically is, "If you don't vote, you forfeit your right to bitch."
[Saw an IM come in from you, but google's web chat interface doesn't seem to want to do a damn thing with it]
