Well, not really. As mentioned earlier, I'm re-reading The Long Walk; Friday, as a warm-up, I mentioned the plot conceit (walk 4mph, warnings every 30sec for being under it, after 2min: *blam!*), so we did that.
Guy #1 lasted 1.12 miles. Guy #2 got a late start, made it past the first guy and, in the process, spent some time jogging to try and get within 1.00 miles of my progress; when he did both, he slowed down and bought the farm.
Altogether, I walked about 45min at that pace, which is, fundamentally, the biggest problem with the story, as much as I love it - 4mph is a brisk goddamn walk (my unhurried stroll is about 2.5, usual going-someplace pace is 2.8-3.0).

Also, I tried that bear crawl you mentioned earlier with my 1-poods. Holy crap. That *sucks*. [giggling] My shoulders hate you from a thousand miles away; of course you should take that as a compliment.

Want to do something even more fun? Try it asymmetrically -- with a different weight in each arm, it's.... interesting.

I've not read _The Long Walk_ yet, but have it by my bedside in the Bachman omnibus. I loved _The Running Man_ (and yeah, I read it well before the dodgy movie came out) so am looking forward to it & the others in the volume.
