[snurched shamelessly from [personal profile] onceuponLet's play a little game. Well, not a game. A meme. But it's so much more FUN when we call it a game.

You comment here. I pay you a compliment.

The first rule is that you don't talk about Fight Clubmust accept the compliment. No trying to wiggle out of it.

The second rule is really more of a suggestion: If you see someone you know in the comments, it'd be awfully nice if you paid them a compliment, too. This is optional, of course. But it would be nice.

Okay, so there aren't a lot of rules here.

I admire your enjoyment and playfulness with language, whether it's in your native (?) tongue, or English.

If it's Swedish, it is indeed my native tounge (sadly, I didn't get a chance to have a stab at Finnish back when it would've been easy, it seems to be a fairly cool language, all things considered).

Except for the eleventy-thousand verb tenses, and the strings of vowels with nary a consonant in sight...

Whoa! I just realized, if you smashed Finnish and Welsh together (or Suomi and Cymru, as they may prefer) you'd have a pronouncable language!

True story: idly watching BBC Wales, I was for a good while trying to figre out why I couldn't make ANY sense of eth Dutch that was spoken on the telly. Then I realised it was Welsh.

I also suspect that Swedish nicked the consonants from Finland, to provide for cmopound words like "Irkutsksktskrattande" ('laughing in an Irkutskian manner').

However, I don't find written Finnish THAT hard to pronounce (but, then, I have a native language with suitable ortography to start from).

"Irkutsksktskrattande"

No!

You made that up.

I've seen line noise more comprehensible than that! ;)

It is, admittedly, a word constructed to maximise the number of pronounced consonants without intervening vowel(s), but it is a fully valid Swedish word (the "-skt" between "tsk" and "skr" is roughly equivalent to the English "-ian" or "-ine", as in "Glaswegian" and "alpine" for neuter words, the other three (or one) grammatical genders take "-sk" instead).
