Plenty of charm on display at the other blog today. And some more polite mumblings at SG.

In shit that's relatively germane here, I recently got an iPod on the cheap, and am thus far not very fucking impressed in the vaunted Apple User Experience. iTunes is slower than fuck, even on a 3Ghz quad-core system with 8GB of ram, and I don't exactly have an epic music collection to sort through. As for the "Genius" feature... well, it doesn't comprehensively suck, but there's enough annoyance there to keep me going for a while. Just making playlists for the garage, so they're going with a lot of crossover based on the seed tracks. Which is fine, especially considering, of the portions of my collection that aren't classical or trance, almost everything else is EBM and metal.

Work was all kinds of fun today after being out Friday, and shorthanded, and assembling stuff for a meeting. We had something like forty-some tickets by the time I went to lunch, and I'd burned an entire hour on a single call for a fucking Excel spreadsheet that was probably jacked off by the people who created it, even though they want to blame us. If it's not their fault, it's one of Microsoft's "critical security updates" from last week. Fucking awesome, right there.

I'm going to have some soup, remain pissed off, and maybe lift. Kim's zoo lost two animals today, so she's in an even better mood than I am.

Sorry about the crummy day.

Also, the 8gig iPods to me are basically toys, but I really like my 40gig that I bought *years* ago. I am really happy with the noise quality (though I need a good stereo so I can listen to it in the house).

My only complaint is the battery.

This was a cheap used 4gb thing. My entire collection is something like 13, so it's not a big deal, really.

I don't know if I should send you hugs or anything... I hope I will see you when I come to Tampa!

That is indeed part of the plan. That's a busy week for us - you and Spud, and two days later, another couple of friends, and I think something else the next weekend.

Recently got a 8GB Touch, it's somewhat better than my previous experiences. I happen to hate the clickwheel thing. I agree, iTunes is the captain of the cockboat. Would be much happier with simple mass storage mode and making playlists on the device. Nike + iPod makes a pretty decent pedometer, though. There's better Flash music players out there, but they don't have the app support Apple does. I'm tracking my calorie intake, exercise, stocks, weather, maps... You name it.

Creepily enough, I actually spent a good part of my day on a simple Excel problem. They wanted to auto-generate air waybill numbers, which have a check digit. I find it sad that building Excel formulas is a tech support function, not a training issue.

NFI what the issue my user had stems from - I suspect it's a version compatibility thing, b/c the file isn't allowing us to reformat cells or sum anything, but if we make a new sheet on the same document, everything is completely behaving itself... unless you paste something from the first page, which remains inflexible (even when unlocked).

I blame the source, and I am loath as fuck to suggest upgrading to Office 2007, because it's just utter, utter shite.
