digitaldiscipline: (Get Off My Lawn!)
[livejournal.com profile] mitejen started a meme that resonates with my FOAD-itude this time of year:

Okay, we've all seen umpty hundred lists of movies and books where you show what you've seen and whatnot. THIS list is all about those movies you have NO desire to see again, were traumatized by, or know damn well you have no interest in seeing, period.

Movies that you saw and will never see again are to be in regular type.

Movies that you stopped watching halfway through are to be italicised.

Movies that you will never see if you can help it are to be bolded.

1. Any Harry Potter film
2. Any Twilight film
3. Pretty Woman
4. The Crying Game
5. Eraserhead
6. Wild at Heart
7. Anything else by David Lynch
8. Waterworld
9. Internal Affairs

10. Rocky Horror Picture Show (yeah, I fucking said it. BRING IT ON.)
11. Transformers 2
12. The Transporter 3
13. The Longest Yard (Adam Sandler version)

14. Beavis and Butt-Head Do America
15. Team America: World Police
16. Contact
17. Citizen Kane
18. War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise version)
19. Battlefield Earth

20.Dune

why you be hatin' on David Lynch... this is why you and I could never be best friends.... (not joking)

I have never seen a movie of his when I haven't wondered why I wasted the time to do so.

different strokes for different folks - but I also honestly like some seriously pretentious shit.... and things which seem to test the attention spans of others....

Something about Lynch's and Waters' flavor of pretention just grates on me.

No, I'm not confused, I'm just not a fan of either guy's ouevre.

Honestly, I've watched so few movies the last few years, I'd have a hard time pointing to much.

I don't tend to get off on high concept stuff, or directors trying to make a statement. When I want to itch my brain for entertainment, I'll read. Movies, for me, tend to be more of a brain vacation.

That said, I like clever or dark (or at least morally ambiguous) action movies (Sneakers, Transporter, Sin City, Last Man Standing) and brilliant comedy (Mel Brooks), and a bunch of the stuff we grew up on in the 80's (War Games). Every so often, a big-dumb-explosions does the trick.

Sadly I saw Transformers 2, Battlefield Earth, War of the Worlds, and the first Twilight film. Transformers 2 was the best of them. But the best of all turds is still a turd.
