I jest, so that I do not start beating people.

Why, you may ask?

First, it looks like a lot of women are unsympathetic bitches to victims of rape. Just... wow. I hope it never happens to them, or anyone, but jesus fucking christ, those are some heartless fucking people in that survey.

A bit closer to home (literally), the Tampa PD did their part to take the VD out of VD by staging a prostitution clientele sting a couple blocks from my house. K and I shared our bemusement, along with a healthy dose of, "Well, I can't say I'm surprised those fine gentlemen wanted to rent a lady's services."

Your reaction to that BBC report is the same as mine. It was a major headline on my morning radio of choice (BBC Radio 4's Today show).

On a not entirely unrelated note, I really want to leave this country.

Because I'm friends with more than a few people who work at the local Planned Parenthood, this is my frame of reference. The women who blame rape victims for their rapes are the same who believe women who get/need abortions are sluts...that is until they, themselves, need/want one. These judgmental a-holes have no f-ing clue.

And, for the record, this makes them assholes, not bitches.

*end of mini-rant*

You've probably read "The only moral abortion is my own," which was written without a shred of irony by exactly the kind of person you're talking about.

unsympathetic bitches to victims of rape

I like to put it this way: if they got into bed with you, or if they got drunk with you at your place, or even if they were just dressed provocatively, they *may* have been asking for something, but it wasn't rape.

Those women have a lot of emotional investment in the idea that it can't happen to them because. If they had any kind of empathy for the victims, they would have to admit that they themselves are at risk.

The world is a lot less scary if you can maintain some sense of control.

Yep. It's the same reason why prosecutors don't want women who are the same basic demographic as the victim on juries during rape trials. Evidently men who fit the father/older brother demographic are more likely to convict.

This is pretty fucked up! I have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that even only a few women could think that. I am sure that if it happened to them, they would be mortified or bash themselves... This is ridiculous.

Okay, that survey made me feel angry and a bit sick. I thought as a society we were doing better with our attitudes by now.
