How fucked up is this shit with the Catholic church?

Sinead O'Connor's op-ed piece in the Washington Post, discussing the depredations going on there, apparently contains enough descriptive language that it triggers my office firewall to block it, citing a 70% probability that it is "adult/sexual" in nature.

I can't see how it could be viewed that way at all. It doesn't have foul language at all.

Which makes me even *happier* with the firewall. (headdesk)

You know which device/app they're using to filter? Most of them are not very smart and need lots of TLC; but most places just shove something in place so they can CYA and don't do much in the way of 'tuning' it.

Could be the fact that the word 'sex' is blatantly everywhere in it. If the app is filtering content, the title of the page including 'sex abuse' would be enough to tip it off

Gotta love this pope. He spent decades as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, rooting out the evils of liberation theology and socialism from the priesthood. But pedophile priests? Just move them around...

You don't need to be Catholic, you just need to be human.

I would say it's the disease of any large organization. Corruption gets in at some level, settles itself in, and there is no getting rid of it. It's part of my general disdain of organized religion as a whole. I have nothing against faith, spirituality, or religion. It's just the organization.

I am reminded of the passage General Starkey recalls in The Stand, where he reflects on "the greatest speech he had ever heard," where an old General said that the soldiers' duty was to protect the service, because it was father and mother.

When the institution becomes more important to those in power than the individuals they ought to be protecting, guiding, and serving, it's time for a cull.
