My A/C unit's compressor shit the bed this weekend, so it would no longer blow cold air.

No problem. The unit's probably still under warranty.

... well, it WAS, through MARCH 31st.

Another $400.00 pulled out of my ass.

Yeah, I'm fucking thrilled. This is my "fucking thrilled" face.

i'd be strongly tempted to pursue warranty anyway... close enough for a "good will" fix?

Agreed. This would be a "couldn't hurt to ask" situation. Also a chance to say "No, I won't buy another of your model. I want one that lasts longer than 30 days after the warranty expiration."

Surprisingly, it was a Carrier, which, last I knew, had a reputation for durability. From the recap I got from K of what the tech said, it was a capacitor-like object about the size of a juice glass that burned out - just bad luck.

They did recommend a tune-up, but that's gonna have to wait a couple of paychecks.

did you by any chance by it on a credit card? a lot of credit cards offer 'extended warranty' protection - usually it doubles the length of your protection, but you have to go through the cc company rather than than the manufacturer.

No, I paid for the A/C using a third party loan, similar to a HELOC.
