digitaldiscipline: (new back)
This will, in all likelihood, get reposted over at digi-disc after tonight's workout, though that's apt to suck. Feeling a little off/queasy, for no clear reason. It's OHP day, so hopefully that won't suffer too badly. If I can at least match or beat last week's session, I'll call it good.

In any case, Tuesday was the day I got to see my thoracic/lumbar/pelvic x-rays with the chiropractor. Call it geeky, or nerdy, or dorky, or maybe just morbidly curious, but I was really looking forward to it.

The bad news isn't all that bad - slight constriction/compression of a couple of disks, and three vertebrae (L2 & 3, T10) are slightly rotated out of proper alignment, and just a hint of asymmetry, bowing towards one side.

The good news was pretty good - other than the above twist and squish, the fore and aft curvature is textbook perfect, my bone density is good (thank you, weightlifting, for both of these) and my hips, despite making interesting popping noises when I move just so, are in perfect alignment.

Having donated blood (double red cells, via the ALYX machine*) yesterday, I got a couple of other positive medical statistics thrown at me as well: BP was 113/63, and my resting pulse, at 1230 in the afternoon, was 51. They haven't run my cholesterol level yet.

* I'm lucky if I can get a whole blood donation done in 25 minutes, and they don't even pump fluid back in that way. I clocked in at 51 minutes, due in no small part to having to triple or quadruple clutch the draw phase, courtesy of my narrow veins (in this regard, I'm very much like my dad)

Glad your spine isn't too dorked up. Back injuries/issues scare me to death.

I donated double red one time, and I felt sluggish for days afterward. Have you felt OK since doing it?

Other than bleeding a tad more than normal from the stick, I'm absolutely fine. I think I just chose poorly for lunch today, since I felt logy and such. Nomming on some honey-braised pork loin at the moment in preparation for lifting has done wonders. As has scoring a semi tire to beat the fuck out of with a sledgehammer, throw/flip, and maybe drag, when I want to do something a little more primal in my workouts. :-)

I always take a pretty solid 4-4:30 min time to get the blood drawn, but my overall time seems to be about 50-60 minutes from walking in the door to leaving.. all that damn paperwork when I could save them time and say "I'm clean, have donated before, nothing's changed, stick a needle in me".

they've streamlined it here so you can fill out the questionnaire yourself, and have a new gizmo for bp/pulse/temp that speeds that up a bit.

regular donations for me aren't super speedy (see: low resting HR) anyway. but, since this was a double, i'm not eligible to give again until november, which i think is weird and lame, because i'll be absolutely fine come october when they will next be at my office.

That's alright, after going to Costa Rica in December to visit the girlfriend's parents, Red Cross didn't want to talk to me for a year. They couldn't find 'Palmares, Costa Rica (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl&q=palmares%2C costa rica)' on the outdated antiquated maps that are the only thing they allow for checking vacation location, and so ruled that since they couldn't verify I wasn't in a safe zone and not a malaria risk zone that they didn't want to see me..

Even though when pulling up google maps on my phone to show them, I was clearly not in a risk zone :(

maybe you should tell a little white lie, in the name of, you know, letting them let you help save someone's ass.

I do that all the time related to my tattoo work.. the only time I haven't done little white lies like that apart from this little fiasco with maps is when I was working as a lifeguard and swim instructor and my job depending on me needing to potentially do that 'heavy lifting' they warn you against, as well as full submersion in water.
