Splint

Just got home from the orthopedist, and it went about as well as possible.

I have a splint, and instructions to take it off to perform ROM/stretch every hour or so. No pins, screws, or other aftermarket bits. I go in for a followup next week.

Further good news was that the break was clean and goes back into place easily, and that my course of RICE means I have almost no swelling to deal with.

I wish the splint was fractionally less curved, b/c it still gets in the way of typing and mousing a bit, but far less than the temporary one did.

Doc said 10 weeks for complete recovery (though the office admin who did my intake paperwork had nice things to say about my condition, both the injury and overall); I think I'll get the "keep using it until X" evaluation when the followup takes place and we see how fast things are knitting up.

Does the splint come off easily enough? I was a bad enough patient with remembering to do rehab exercises once a day. Once every hour or so? Not going to happen. (unless I'm worried that it will never be the same again if I don't do the exercises) If I think it'll just take longer to heal then I'm likely to just wait it out. Downside to being patient I guess. Take good care of your hand!
