They're - you know, it's - it's becoming, youknowyouknow, it's just a matter of c-- c-- this problem that we're becoming communist, you know, socialist, it's just crazy!"

I could only watch about half of this. Jaeger woke up crying and I couldn't go back to it after putting him back to sleep. These people aggravate me way too much.

Go to the last few seconds and watch Ben Franklin. You'll be happy you did. :-)

It makes me want to talk back, and not just to my TV. We need an organized pushback against this, and it needs to be too big for the corporate media to refuse to cover it like they did Saturday's counter-protests.

LOL at Ben Franklin at the end!

I felt like I was watching my parents, sibs and in-laws in that video. Particularly with the abundance of fanny packs and visors. :-P

Hello face, meet palm.

The fact that they were spouting the same soundbites just killed me.

Hey palm, did you miss me? - face.

Based on how crowded and annoying the Metro was that day and how I kept running into them everywhere* I went last weekend, I expected the event itself to be more crowded than that***. I didn't see anyone who was there for the counter-rally****.

* Of course, they didn't stand right and walk left, tourists rarely do, but they stopped getting on the train before it was even crowded, long before it would have been actually full. And they kept talking me assuming I was waiting for the train so I could go to the rally, too.

** Well, not the farm where I picked peaches, but there was a group of them at the gay restaurant we went to for lunch that day. My friends, the couple at the table next to us, and the wait staff were wondering if they knew where they were.

*** Honestly, my school trips to DC filled up more of the Lincoln Memorial steps than that, and I didn't go to that large a school. I think I've seen the memorial more crowded just of random Saturday tourists. And there were TONS more of us out for the Avon Walk opening and closing ceremonies. I feel pretty good about that.

**** Not sure if that's because I live in "safe" Northern VA and was traveling away from the rally when I got to "unsafe" U Street or if it's because very few people take Al Sharpton seriously.

*They talked to me on the Metro until I started wearing one of my big Obama buttons (the big one from the primary, so there is no question what it says) every time I got on the "safe" Red Line. I'd probably wear it during this whole mess even if they didn't actually talk to me-- the thought of being mistaken for one of them, or someone who would identify with them, by anyone, sickens me.

****I think the fact that nobody knew the counter-rally was happening has something to do with it too. I would've gone to Sharpton's event if the media had covered it, but I couldn't find any info on where it was-- and I was looking. That bugs me even more.

P.S. All of this has led me to reconsider my assessment of Sharpton. Yeah, he periodically says really stupid things, but so does Biden. I'd still take him over Beck any day of the week.
My views on politics are many and nuanced-- I have actually run out of room on LJ posts -- but sometimes you have to choose A or B one side or the other...

...well, that or stand aside, which really isn't my style.
