The response to the new events (jumping, throwing, and the mile run) was quite positive, and it was a lot of fun to incorporate new and different things. We've all got benchmarks against which to compete next month (and I've been talked into doing the Gasparilla Distance Classic 5k at the end of February with the usual band of coworkers (as well as some additional friends); whether or not I subject myself to the half marathon on the next day is a matter deserving of some mulling*** (goddamn, six in the morning? At least I should be done by 830...)

*** I'm sure that <lj user="thewronghands"> and company are thinking, "Fuck you, 'mulling,' get your ass out there, since you're blowing off the New Orleans half, you slacker!"

Ahahaha. 5k is a warmup! If we have to suffer, everyone has to suffer!

[helps!]

I've got the registration page open in another tab. I figure if I take the 5k easy on saturday, and to in with the mindset of "just don't stop and walk, it's a moral victory" for the half... hmmm....

Of course, since y'all will be doing yours two weeks sooner, I should, hopefully, have some ballpark times against which to compare myself / shoot for.

note to self: when you compose messages in the rich text editor, not the html one, don't actually type out the html. *facepalm*

Congratulations to you for your excellent time in the mile--but congratulations also to the 256 pound man who managed it in 12:49.

I'm satisfied but not satisfied with my time - satisfied, because it's the fastest i've done one in years, but dissatisfied because, fifteen years and fifty pounds ago, i ran a 4:52. I'd like to get back to sub-6, but not if it means getting appreciably less able to pick up heavy shit.

Yup, and that's the trade off if you're a guy. One great thing about being a girl is that I don't have to worry about my lifting bulking me up to the point where it screws up my running (though I still obviously have to prioritize one over the other, due to need for adequate recovery).

Well, given my latest, you're likely gonna kick my ass, moral victory or no. So, get on out there! [grin]

Once you get to be a "man of a certain age," you *hire* people to pick-up heavy shit.

I'm the guy that gets hired. Unofficially.
