I occasionally ask very difficult and very unpleasant questions.

The fact that they are difficult and unpleasant does not make them any less necessary to ask. It just makes you unpopular for asking them.

it may be hard to track down now that it got popular; i think the author may be trying to restrict access in order to cash in (and while i can't blame him for that, the "information wants to be free" part of me is frustrated by it; i have a complicated interrelationship with intellectual property)
