24:21 (7:49/mi), 499th overall, 39th in group (M 35-39).
Cramped just past mile 2 after drinking some water. I'm satisfied, as I wanted to be under 25:00, and was hoping to maybe break 24:00 (which I probably would have had I not had to relieve a side stitch and cramps in my mid-back between miles two and three). Despite that, my pace was consistent; 7:45 / 15:35 at the timing stripes. Managed a strong but not great kick at the finish.
70 and muggy and windless and sunny; about as different from last year's 50, wind, and rain (26:35, followed by puking) as we could get.
I hope it's a bit cooler, with a light breeze, tomorrow for the half.

My goal time for the half is sub-1:50:00, or about a minute per mile slower than what I did today (my long training runs were only slightly uncomfortable at 8:45 for 8 miles). I'll be disappointed if I don't break 2:00:00, but otherwise, I have no real expectations.
it's less oppressive than someone who is looking to be truly competitive in one, or the other, or (for the truly deranged) participating in the various "challenge" events... which combine your time from race x, y, and z.
the crossfit dude with a blood-red mohawk whom i was pacing had run the 15k an hour before, and he's apparently doing both the half and the 8k tomorrow (which is the full slate of events). this is actually a step down in insanity, as there used to be a FULL marathon as a component of the toughest challenge, but it was dropped from the roster this year in favor of the 8k.
