friend A: The more I read about Rick Perry, the more he scares the shit out of me
yours truly: he's like bush, but dumber and more evangelical
friend A: it's the "more evangelical" part that really bothers me
yours truly: maybe not dumber
yours truly: yeah
yours truly: he has no fucking shot.
friend A: as a pagan woman, he scares the shit out of me
yours truly: as a sentient life form, he irritates the fuck out of me
friend A: lol
yours truly: fucking npr quoted some of his climate change denialism. this guy is sarah palin without the tits and ass
friend A: it's the over the top religous bent that bothers me
yours truly: which will also bother moderates.
friend A: there are moderates left?
yours truly: he's in the race to put a slightly more sane penis in place of bachmann, so that romney has a running mate, because everyone, as stewart pointed out, is ignoring the shit out of ron paul
yours truly: yes. they're all sitting around going "what the fuck is wrong with you people?"
yours truly: see also: rally to restore sanity, etc.
yours truly: see, you and i are pissed off and disappointed liberals. we want guys like harry reid and russ feingold to go kick some ass.
yours truly: we're not getting our million dollars or a pony.

I still think we should plot a takeover. By takeover, I mean find a way to fleece these people of their money. Do unto them as they have done unto us...

HAHAHA NOW YOU POOR FUCKS GET TO SEE WHAT I DEAL WITH EVERY DAY AS A RESIDENT OF TEXAS.

Like how we're having the hottest summer in a century, terrible drought, lakes drying up, wildfires everywhere, and the solution is to pray for rain. That's his legitimate plan. It's not to hire more firefighters to deal with the blazes, it's not to make whatever deals need to be made to get the water needed to save the state's dried out farms, it's not to encourage water conservation, and it's not to ask the federal government for help. It's to pray.

Well, I guess that's a hell of a lot easier than finding real solutions, isn't it?

The fact that you've had like five straight weeks of 100+ temps isn't evidence of global warming?

I guess he wouldn't notice, though - his colon is a nice, consistent 98.6, and that's where his head has been for *years.*

Why does everyone ignore Ron Paul? I mean, I wouldn't vote for him, but there are a lot of pretty rabid supporters for him out there. And at least his ideas are different...

He does seem to get completely ignored by the mainstream media.

I was thinking this whole governor making a presidential bid thing was far too similar to 1999&2000, though I don't think Perry's gubernatorial campaign included "I will serve my entire term and not run for President" but the whole anti-sodomy, anti-abortion, pro-prayer days stuff is like deja vu. I hadn't thought about the weather, but my last year in Texas we had 45 days in a row over 100. It's kinda eerie.

Rick Perry considered legislation to stick a vaginal ultrasound in every woman seeking an abortion, in addition to a mandatory waiting period EMERGENCY LEGISLATION. This was given priority over approving the state budget. This is how he defines emergencies.

And let us not forget Texas is a state where both the Lt Governor and Railroad Commissioner have more real power than the Governor. Keeping Perry as Governor was a way of containing the damage.

He's ignored because the media does not find him palatable. No, not just "liberal media"; the media in general and the people in charge ("power elite" if you prefer). See this article (http://www.tinyrevolution.com/mt/archives/000596.html) and read the bit about Gary Hart.
