So, either my blatant web grazing at the office has made the point that I'm woefully underutilized, or my comments to the boss' daughter a couple weeks back on the subject of considering looking for a better-paying gig were passed along, but the twist of the week has me becomeing a half-assed web developer in addition to the world's ugliest secretary, with the intent of making me a port (as in boats) security expert, as that's where the boss sees a big surge of potential business coming from.
I think it's pretty safe to say, I never saw myself becoming some kind of waterborne threat assessment guru with an ethernet port coming out of my ass.
Now, what any of this means in terms of real-world anything (more money, the ability to wear t-shirts to work, much less any kind of future in doing anything i know the first damn thing about) is anybody's guess. The allusion to greater wages was made this morning, though I will retain my gig as "world's ugliest secretary" for the time being - there's not enough work here for one person in that job, much less for a part of me -and- a dedicated receptionist-type.
But, here I am, with a mostly-legal copy of Dreamweaver MX and an upcoming Coast Guard safety specification, and I get to have that ever-popular epiphany: "What. tha. fuck.?"
I get the feeling that I'm veering further and further away from something I have any interest making a career of, especially with this maritime stuff - it's an Old Boys' Club to be sure, and I'm neither Old nor Maritime enough to fool anyone - independent of the fact that I'm about as Southern as a Labatt's bottlecap.
"Ahhhh, stupid financial considerations!" [/Homer]
So, anyway. . . .
