snot, fans, assorted weirdness

just because it's going around, literally, the state of the sinuses:

acute pain yesterday [to the point of wanting to yank out molars to see if it'd drain that way], slept like a baby, then ejected a rather stunning quanitity of off-color goo. my left ear, for the first time in quite a while, popped and hears better [though it is refilling slightly]. tylenol sinus jitters compounded by 16 ounces of java goodness. weeeee.

spent a very pleasant quiet first hour at the office exorcizing norton systemworks from the work machine [regedit is my minion - all 247 instances of the word "symantec" BEGONE!] in favor of mcaffee virus scan and swapping the power supply fan in the accounting pc whilst shooting the breeze with mpeace.

still waiting on word back from MSFT. will probably nag the sis tomorrow regarding that, since holiday backlog seems the most likely reason for the lack of response thus far.

rec'd an alarming item in the post today - from MBI, a signed and numbered bottle of hot sauce extract. the warning label says:

Use Extreme Caution.
This is NOT a sauce!
This product must be used as an ingredient only. (1 tsp Blair's 2AM reserve mixed with 1 gallon of sauce will produce extreme heat)
AVOID ANY AND ALL SKIN CONACT!

okay, so i was about to go home for lunch, when i see the road is blocked by cop cars, and an ambulance is pulling up.

"Hmm, i wonder if there was an accident at the gas station on the corner." come back in, fire up the web browser, and the phone rings. it's our erstwhile accounting woman, who is a news maven, calling to make sure everyone's OK.

apparently the bank next door was robbed, and someone was shot.

it seems that i type loud enough to drown out -gunfire-. [k, i am sorry i keep you up with my qwerty bangings late at night. yeeesh]

so, i'll be chilling here until they open the road and i can actually leave the parking lot.

[edit: home for lunch now. seems the extra helping of hubbub was because the people shot were one of the perps, and one of the cops acting as security. cop shot in chest = massive police response.]

A cuppa what?

Okay, this has been bugging me (mpeace got this full-force via YM the other day) for a while. . .

You know how big a goddamned "cup" of coffee, according to coffee pot manufacturers? SIX OUNCES.

So, a pseudo-poll:

How big is everyone's handiest coffee/tea slurping container:

- 6oz
- 8-10oz
- 10-12oz
- 12-16oz
- 16-24oz
- 24-32oz
- 32oz (or IV drip, you addict)

I discovered the arbitrary "6oz = 1 cup" thing today by observation - K gets a single 16 oz cup, slightly underfilled, and I get two (likewise) out of 8.5 "cups" according to our trusty Braun.
