[livejournal.com profile] axissilverhand asks a good question - what did people do to keep from going bugshit on a killing spree in the days of yore?

Or did they go on bugshit killing sprees, and the lack of efficient means of doing so, coupled with lack of instant-gratification media saturaton, made doing so less visible?

Gas is up around $2.60 for the cheap stuff here today. It cost twice as much to fill up my car two weeks ago as it did two years ago, and gas cost 10% less.

Hey, Dubya, I guess that war wasn't about oil, was it? Bet you and your cronies aren't making a bundle on that crude pushing $70 a barrel, huh? How about that three billion $$ you appropriated from Saddam - still using it to buy off political flacks in the Green Zone, free of congressional oversight?

Since it's August, and our Asshole In Chief is on vacation, blissfully disregarding the unpleasant reality that's literally camping on his doorstep in the person of a soldier's grieving mother, not to mention the quagmire (DRY QUAGMIRE!) he's embroiled the armed forces in. . . who wants to bet that something Very Bad doesn't happen between now and Halloween? Something like, I dunno, we invade another country (hey, Iran. . . you might want to start stockpiling insurgents and IED materials now)

Anyone heard anything about Tom DeLay's head being served on a silver plate, as he so richly deserves? Didn't think so.

How about Gary Condit? They ever bother to follow up on that asshole?

What about Cheney's lawsuit? Gitmo?

That jackass Bolton say anything stupid to the UN yet?

Fuck intelligent design; I demand intelligent action.

"what did people do to keep from going bugshit on a killing spree in the days of yore? "

I think people were too busy trying to hunt/scrounge enough to eat, keep from freezing, and avoid those things that wanted to eat them. Going on a bugshit killing spree is a luxury reserved for those with 9-5 jobs, a roof over their heads, and a nearby grocery store.

You're probably right.

The solution? I SHALL WALK TO THE GROCERY STORE!

Hm. That doesn't sound like it's going to engender a fundamental change in society.

It'll save you some of that $2.60 (Hah! Ours is $2.75 at the crappy Clark station and $2.79 PDQ that has the good coffee) gas...

axissilverhand asks a good question - what did people do to keep from going bugshit on a killing spree in the days of yore?

Usually, we gathered a bunch of like-minded people, saddled up the wagons and horses, and colonized someplace. Usually with a bit of force. Sometimes it was successful. Other times, it wasn't.

Think about it; if we could colonize some untouched land with a bunch of people who are in general agreement with ourselves...wouldn't that pretty much take care of the bugfuck issue?

It's pretty much the 2nd law of thermodynamics taking effect in terms of society. The earth is a closed system at this time; no room to go. Thus, entropic decay begins to set in as we eat ourselves...

So, when are you and A getting down here so that we can begin colonizing Tampa? ;-)

Working on it. :)
My posts of late are about getting a job that pays something real; I have a further update on that today.
Although, we WILL be down in September, as stated.
Have any recommendations on a decent place to stay?

when in september?

there's this homey little B&B, as long as you're cat-friendly, that comes replete with freaks and broadband. . .

September 21-25.
We are cat-friendly.
Oh, and while I'm at it, ya'll are aware you're on the guest list for the October wedding [amongst others]?

On gas: It also has a ripple effect in that it is now more expensive to transport goods. I've noticed that my grocery bills have been increasing as the gas prices increase, even though my food consumption stays the same. I believe that the grocery store is passing on the cost to me.

On the intelligent design question: The wording in that question is so slanted that I'm not surprised by the results. besides the fact that the website panders to the religious right. Stupid people always want everything in black and white when there are so many shades of gray.

I fear how much shittier things have to become for the rest of this country's eyes to open. Why are we not impeaching this guy for taking us to war on false pretenses?
Date/Time: 2005-08-18 19:41 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] etcet.livejournal.com
As someone in the food industry, I can say that it's absolutely true that the higher costs of transporting goods is being passed along to our customers, who can either see their profits shrink (admittedly, it's minimal at the per-unit level), or pass the cost on to consumers, who ultimately bear the brunt of most of these things. The Fed's numbers show that inflation is up again, and that should come as a surprise to absolutely -nobody.-

GWB: Lalalalalalala. Everything's fine, I can't hear you, we're staying the course, we're using a process, and you're not smart enough to know what's right for yourselves.

Frankly, if someone used the ounce of lead solution, I guarantee that nobody would be more surpised than the Asshole in Chief, because in his world, everyone loves and agrees with him.

To sane citizens, that person is a hero. To this administration, that person is a terrorist.

I saw a very interesting bumper sticker yesterday: "A man with a gun is a citizen. A man without a gun is a subject."

That's more or less what I thought. The Christian Right is once-again running afoul of logical fallacies... in this case the false dilemma. I didn't reply, because either answer only empowers the dual-option mode of thinking that screws us up so badly.

axissilverhand asks a good question - what did people do to keep from going bugshit on a killing spree in the days of yore?

Well, The Peasant's Revolt and the French Revolution are what come imediately to mind. Of course at various times they raided and/or conquered the lands of others and the people; popes were exiled; royalty and nobility were forced to abdicate and flee for their lives or were assassinated or executed for a variety of reasons...

Oh...you mean non violent action?? Ummmm....fled and lived in the forest...Robbed the Rich gave to the poor...*shrugs*

I keep trying to figure out how to germinate a Second American Revolution without getting quietly eliminated before any good comes of it, and I'm drawing a blank.

I'm drawing a blank as well....I was thinking starting a "cult" but then Waco comes to mind....

All I know is obtaining my dual citizenship is looking more and more appealing.
