The Crime of "Unauthorized Reproduction"
New law will require marriage as a legal condition of motherhood

By Laura McPhee

Republican lawmakers are drafting new legislation that will make marriage a requirement for motherhood in the state of Indiana, including specific criminal penalties for unmarried women who do become pregnant "by means other than sexual intercourse."

According to a draft of the recommended change in state law, every woman in Indiana seeking to become a mother throu gh assisted reproduction therapy such as in vitro fertilization, sperm donation, and egg donation, must first file for a "petition for parentage" in their local county probate court.

Only women who are married will be considered for the "gestational certificate" that must be presented to any doctor who facilitates the pregnancy.

Swarmy, where were these assholes when those inbreds in your in-laws' family tree were dropping out their shit demons?

In other news, both Kim and I feel like hammered dogshit, just in time to ruin the season opener tonight. *sigh*

Here's my letter to Senator Miller...

I am shocked by the notion that you would propose to legislate reproductive rights in your efforts with assisted reproduction. You're essentially telling dictating who can and cannot reproduce.

If a person makes the monumental effort to bring a life into the world through assisted reproduction, then I would wager that they would care more for that child than most married or even unwed couples do, who might conceive by chance.

And will you next be looking into the backgrounds of married couples who conceive natrually? Who says that they are fit to reproduce? Just because they are wed in the eyes of the state, this does not mean that they are fine, upstanding people. Numerous times I hear news stories about parents murdering their own biological children. Marriage does not equal stable and "good".

And what about divorced couples? Evidently, their moral foundation was not strong enough to stay married. Do they need to apply with the state in order to continue to have children? Even if they re-marry? Will this soon be part of the process to apply for a marriage liscense? Well heck - why not start telling us who we can and cannot marry based on our very genetics?

Senator Miller, your proposal makes no logical sense. Instead of attacking the people who want to have children and contribute to the growth of the human race, why don't you look to assist those who already have children and may not be able to provide for them?

Why not use your position to help instead of hurt? That's what God would want.

I always throw in God whenever I email legislators for some reason. Just because they do all the time.
