I have decided to pursue the new opportunity with critus' office, and have tendered my resignation from Big Red Can Cola Company, effective the end of the month.

Thank you for all the advice, on all sides of the issue. As I said to my boss, it was far from an easy decision, but I think that I've got more opportunities with the new gig. And, sometimes, you just need a change to shake things up.

I was using public as in, openly swigging at one's desk. I don't know what their rules are regarding off the clock, but I'd bet they have one!
