Legal possessions confiscated by police may still be destroyed. [link courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] critus' boss]

Eighth Circuit Appeals Court ruling says police may seize cash from motorists even in the absence of any evidence that a crime has been committed. [link courtesy of my boss]

That right to bear arms to defend life, liberty, and property doesn't look like such a bad fucking idea anymore, does it?

ETA: On the subject of Stem-cell research, as [livejournal.com profile] lil_m_moses asks us: "I don't see [President Fuckstick] vetoing the Iraq invasion just because a bunch of Americans object to it and shouldn't have to pay for it."

ea I heard about the second on one NPR

it is looking more and more like a police state every damn day

Of course, if you exercise that right to defend life, liberty and property in this context, you earn yourself the nickname "copkiller" and take it in the ass (figuratively or not0 from the prison guards until such time as they finally beat you to death.

Yay! American justice! We can't feed the hungry, house the homeless, cure the sick and educate the population, but damned if we can't prevent other backwards countries from doing it either *and* our Beloved Leader rewards our police state with what amounts to spoils.

Kinda makes me want a pickup, a 12-gauge, and a big ole stars n stripes for my back window to show my patriotism.

But I do have one burning question...if they confiscate your legally possessed cash even in the absence of a crime being committed, may they still destroy it later? ;) Or is destruction of currency still a violation of federal law? *smirk*
Date/Time: 2006-08-24 16:41 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] mighty-man.livejournal.com
Destruction of currency is *not* a violation of federal law IIRC. Alteration or mutilation is a violation. (it's kind of like the whole suicide thing -- attempted suicide is illegal, suicide is not).

As a matter of fact, it's the Federal Reserve Bank's job to remove currency from circulation and destroy it.

American Justice: I'm still trying to figure out why we should feed the hungry, house the homeless or educate the population or let other countries do the same. When you're ahead, you do what you can to stay ahead.

Any of you posters currently unable to secure enough food to survive, don't have a place to eat, have internet access at home or at least a high school diploma? If not, I don't wanna hear about it.

Thanks for the gentle reminder of why I generally don't actually give a shit about other people, take it as you list. Out of respect for [livejournal.com profile] etcet I'll not continue a pissing match with someone I don't even know in *his* journal. Mind you, he's hardly averse to dickwaving *smirk* so if he's game, bring it. If not, feel free to reply to anything in my own journal on or off topic *g* Otherwise, mind yer manners, whelp ;)
Date/Time: 2006-08-24 17:08 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] mighty-man.livejournal.com
eh, don't worry about etcet. If he didn't want this stuff to pop up, he wouldn't bother posting it or, he would have locked me out by now. If you don't believe that, look at how many of his political rants we've gone back and forth on. Can't help it that I'm a republican and disagree with 80% or more of the stuff that comes out of his mouth. =8-)

Hell, we've been having pissing matches since before we were friends, and that's been going back some 20+ years now.

Bring it? Consider it brought-en! And if you feel the need to engage, leave the manners at home.

awwww yeah, an irascible malcontent (however misguided yer notions ;) ) after my own heart, heh. and just for the record i must say, for not being a republican, etcet generally seems to share part of my curse...too liberal to be right, too conservative to be wrong, and i doubt his peculiar libertarianism fits the usual mold cuz he seems to share my lack of faith in other human's abilities to do much of anything right. besides, he's best agreed with over a beer, loud music, and few words :> this you know, tho cuz you've got 10 years on me, heh.

so, in the immortal words of Bob & David...i'll marry your ass! and manners? etcet, do i have any? real ones, that is? ;) what passes for manners is just me being an arrogant prick.

Malcontent? Let's just say, when I come to power, there will be changes...
Anytime Rafe begins to get any notion that other humans may be improving on the whole, I just tell him stories of the people that come visit me at work.

I think etcet is best agreed with when we're BSU-ing (Blowin' Shit Up). Beer, Liquor, Boobs, whatever.

Manners/Arrogant Prick -- Hmm...we'd have to let etcet decide our respective rankings.

when you come to power, it will be over my dead body. you will have approximately six seconds before I respawn and pwn your ass. ;-)

Frank has better manners, Ivan is more arrogant. I have spoken. ;-D

Sorry you won't be around to help me then. But respawning won't help. I'll have medicaid recipients camp your spawn (it isn't as though there aren't enough of those running around) and I'll even leave Baal in charge. You'll be smirking at him laughing his veins out at your repeated slayings.

Frank/Ivan: I somehow guessed that =8-)

I'm reminded of Stephen Colbert. "I used to root for the underdog, but you know what you get when you root for the underdog? More underdogs. Now I root for the overdog." Pity I can only understand social conservatism by way of parody ;) Then I put down the CQ and watch The Daily Show/Colbert Repor(t).

To be fair, I don't know of any good conservative/republican (or even liberal/democrat) exemplars on which to base my prejudices. None of the ones I know got into office without spreading their legs first, so I only have the parade of self-serving twats of the Republicrat military/industrial/corporate complex bottomfeeders who've occupied the Seat of Evil to guide me. Do you know of any? Note: ad hominem not directed at you but at the sockpuppets who have appropriated our best politically divisive terms and issues.

That, and I know what *I* mean when I say conservative, but I don't know what *you* mean. Republican/Democrat labels, however, just strike me as meaningless, so I'm more curious as to why you'd limit yourself with party affiliation. Besides, you appear more of an autocrat. Is the Republican schtick just a convenient place to pitch an ideological tent until you grab for the brass ring? ;)

And I'll head off the tax & spend part by just observing that we're both guilty...it's more "tax whom and how and spend on *what* and why exactly?" methinks.

it's so cute watching you little ones dicker.

just leave the ad hominem shit at home, but if one of you can actually win the argument, it'll be worth it to watch. :-)

Yes, it is illegal to destroy currency, *unless* you are the Federal Reserve System itself. Defacing, mutilating or destroying currency is against the law. Good luck prosecuting it, however. Unless the perp signs the bill in his legitimate signature, there is no way to prove who did what. You could have easily inherited the bill from someone else, and they from someone else.

On another note, does anyone *have* a good link to a review on "Life, Libery and Property?" Without reading in depth, the phrases sounds rather...selfish.

I do vaguely remember there being some tie to "Life, Liberty, Fraternity" that the French touted some time before the American Revolution, but can't remember specifics.

It's all part of the government's new policy of "pre-emptive justice": arrest people before they have a chance to commit crimes, just to be on the safe side.

wasnt that a bad Tom Cruise movie?

Personally I liked the automatic personalized displays, however it would always just show strippers or beer for me I imagine

Here's an idea: lets arrest the fucking President today, right now, just to be on the safe side. If we wait until he's violated the Constitution again, it'll be too late. The smoking gun, you know, would be a mushroom cloud.

Well - aside from the black pit of non-news I've fallen into....I will always say that when "we" protect an individual's rights, we protect everyone's rights. Current issues aside, big government is always bad. It's something humans just won't be able to overcome.

Btw - I miss going to the range.
