I can't say that I completely agree with all the sentiments expressed re: Imminent Hostilities, but for an entertainingly wry take on them, I defer to Steven Brust, from his novel Dragon:

"Well, Vlad," he said. "Are you prepared to strike another blow for freedom?"
"Is that what we're doing?"
"No, but it sounds better than helping a wealthy and powerful aristocrat maintain his wealth and power."
"Have you been listening to my conversations?"

edit: that first line should read "blow a little over half" - $400 out of $620 (between state and federal)
