At least I've dealt with nothing but friendly people (other than the chica at Progressive, whose quote I'm not going to be using, since xferring my old policy, right now, is the cheapest option). But I just got off the phone with an idependent insurance agent after having the following conversation:

"I'm sorry I'm not going to be able to do too much for you - with a prior ticket within the last three years, because you live in in Orleans Parish, your initial payment will be $663, with subsequent payments of $557."

"Oh, that's not too bad at all. I'm paying $900 for six months now."

"Those are monthly payments."

*thunk*

My goodness! Have you checked with all of the insurance agents? My goodness that's high!!! Is Orleans Parrish that high crime??

Dayum! What's your ride? A Corvette? That is insane, dude. I'd recommend State Farm - they have never bumped my rates, through 4 tickets (evenly spaced at about 3 years apart), one or two minor claims and a car-totalling accident of my wife's. Of course, we carry 2 cars, life insurance on both of us, and home insurance through them so they don't want to lose our business. See if you can get a package deal from a company and do all your insurance through them.

You live downtown or something? If you have one of the high-theft cars then you are screwed - living in a port city means they can get it off shore easily. I wouldn't have bought my Accord if I lived there.

As far as most insurance companies and independent agents are concerned, 70131 is contiguous with 70130. 70130 is downtown NOLA, across the street from the FQ. There's the small matter of the MISSISSIPPI FREAKING RIVER between that and where I live (along with about seven miles of real estate). But I'm technically still in the city of new orleans, so i get assraped on insurance rates.

fuckers.

I actually asked the SF guy who shares the building with us - the entire company (or at least all their reps in louisiana) aren't taking on new clients. WTF?!? If i had an existing policy, I'd be fine, but no new business.

In a year, this will all be immaterial, and I'll have dirt-cheap insurance (turn 30, both minor tickets are from spring '01), but for the time being, i get the shaft.

even Progressive, who it looks like i'll be stuck with, quoted me two different rates. New policy, $1300. xfer my old one, $900. whafuck?

insurance bigwigs will follow lawyers into the sun when the [livejournal.com profile] wildturkeyparty comes to power.

I'd be asking him to get under the table and service you for THAT kind of cash. That's hella more than *I* am paying in New *analrapeinsuranceprices* Jersey. And that's on a soft top 4 x 4.

Do you have some sort of neon sign saying "F**k with me! Please!".
