No, Swarmy, this isn't about you, but you'll appreciate it. ArcSin, Trid, Axis - you guys will -love- it.

So, you may recall the Omaha Steaks delivery. This means two things: good fucking cow, and dry ice.

You know what came next.

Yes, those are tootsie pops holding the dry ice above the air intakes on my watercooling radiator. Booyah! [spiffy, but not uber efficient - under 100% load, my cpu temp dropped from 102 to 94F, and all the way down to 85F at idle.]

Sweet Jesus!

What's the average room temperature (as related ot the average peak load temperature)? I spend a good amount of air conditioning dollars on keeping my primary systems room below 85 degrees F (to keep CPUs below 110 degrees F).

And incidentally - I find that using the dry ice to fast freeze Freezie Pops is also delightful!

Room temp tends to stay around 75F [yes, our electric bills are icky come summertime].

Note to self: capacitors near CPU socket are FUCKING HOT. Do Not Touch.

Swarmy = damn near computer illiterate.

I'm a programmer, but I work on a mainframe system using COBOL. Same shit my mother did at my age. I use a PC at work, but I couldn't fool a 12 year old about my PC knowledge. Hell, I can't make McAfee stop with the goddamn "an upgrade is available" pop-ups on my new PC. I thought security software was supposed to STOP evil annoying crap like that - not ADD to it!

grrrrrrrrr......

actually, the original post title was "Smog Chow" - I neglected to modify the body after I changed it.

For MacAfee: Right click the Red M, go to Updates, and click configure. There's an option there to disable automatic updates. The caveat being that you need to remember to update your shit once a month or whatever. [and, yes, i'm fully aware there was an update today. heh]

About 10 years ago some friends and I were trying to cobble together a LOX-Kerosine rocket engine. Most of the cryogenic testing was done using liquid nitrogen. The relevents of this was that we discovered that not only is liquid nitrogen not terribly expensive, but it is remarkable easy to get once you find a place that sells it (could you fill this thermos up? cool, thanks). Down side, of course, is that it boils off all too quickly.

But I digress...
