24:45

Not quite what I was hoping to do (sub-24), but an improvement over last time (26:02). I went out too fast (first mile in 7:05), which caused me to run out of wind, and my left calf cramped up just before the two mile mark, necessitating a couple of walking recoveries in the last half of the run. Oh well.

Surprising approximately nobody, cardio is where my performance is limited, since my workout focus has been more on strength and power the last few months. I'm going to try and incorporate more interval and HIIT stuff on my non-lifting days.

That's a good time, bro, don't beat yourself up. Best time I've managed in the past several years was 27:42. (Last .6 was all up hill though, that really sucked!) I'm running another in May, I might come closer to your time, but I won't be able to beat it.

There's another one we're looking to do in May as well, and apparently something called the "Muddy Buddy" which is a 5mi run, 5mi bike ride, and then obstacle course, all through a big mucky course, that I may have been talked into trying.

I'm thinking it's unlikely, but, hell, I've got my eye on doing one of those baby triathlons at some point (the ones that have a 5k run as that component), so it's not the dumbest thing that's crossed my mind lately.

"You know, I could probably do a marathon in four hours or so..."

Sprints? Those seem like fun.

I've done those, and will continue to do them. :-)

You are a much harder core endurance athlete than myself. I have zero desire to rock longer distances. I will leave that to you and cheer you on, sir. :)

The muddy buddy sounds fun though!

i've more or less determined that training for anything over 10k is boring and annoying to me. just going out and doing it, while stupid and sore-making, is a one-time thing.

So I take it breakfast worked out a bit better this time?

(and congrats on destroying my prediction -- I was hoping I'd get you a little bit mad :)

Breakfast was "12oz of coffee, cream and sugar, 45 minutes pre-race."

I was bloody damn hungry on the run, and promptly demolished a couple apples, a banana, a hotdog, and two pints of water afterwards.

And, yes, I was damned if I was only going to beat my "I feel like ass" time by 30 seconds, which kept my "walk and breathe, stupid" breaks as short as they were. The fact that they happened at all still annoys me (then again, this is about four minutes faster than I usually do at lunch 3x a week - those runs are 3.25 in about 28 minutes or so. Cutting another minute per mile off is next on the agenda... or just maintaining that 7:05 all the way along, which should put me right at that 22:00 bogey I've set for myself.
