I'm all for cost control and financial responsibility, but this particular atavism about it is of a stridency that is typically only found in financial stakeholders trying to maximize profits.

Since they have been adamant about their not-for-profit status, comments to the effect of opening their books to support their assertions of good intentions have begun to circulate.

If they are truly on the up-and-up about the non-profit status (I'm still wiling to give them a sliver of a benefit of the doubt), it's entirely possible that all the money-grubbing is simply a resumé-builder. "Aren't I cool?! I spearheaded the organization of a $100k giant bloated non-profit event! Hire me to plan your event for $$$$!"

Either way it still comes back to grossly misplaced greed.

I have to say I noticed a huge difference between replying to a thread where he was posting in an official capacity about Tea Party tickets versus replying to a contact request. The contact request was just like any other 'regular person'

There was a posting (http://community.livejournal.com/agc_afterglow/64024.html) to agc_afterglow that tepesh mentioned the tea party tickets being non-transferable to answer a question about someone looking to acquire a second ticket for their boyfriend. The postings I had back and forth did not seem to make sense, and were a "beaurocratic answer" of "too bad, your money paid is just a loss" and was a very different "atmosphere" to the small conversation I had with him for a reply to the c13 'contact' page. The contact reply was more down to earth normal-guy conversation instead.
