Muscle mass = increased metabolism = easier to lose weight. No you won't "get huge". This gets posted to every fitness forum I read at least daily.

I want to smack those people.

I have been *trying* to put on muscle, and have only managed about 10# worth (I've lost 15# overall, but gone down ~9% bodyfat; my lean body mass has gone from ~140 to ~150).

Me too, I'm currently on a dirty bulk, eating what the fuck ever and lifting progressively. We'll see come March what percentage of the weight I've gained is muscle when I go back on the diet.

You and me both. I got sick of the scale going nowhere during my last round of attempted cutting. If I can maintain my 2:1 or so ratio as I gain (or, hell, just stay around 13-15% BF), I'll call it good.

all I did was share, it; I'd have phrased the caption more cuttingly, were I the author. :-)

*cries laughing* I don't know how many times I've seen tiny men busting their butts doing cardio. I always wonder what the Hell they're doing.

I love this. Of course, I'm a cardio bunny, so I'm laughing at myself :)

I've been there, too.

See also: pictures of me from high school, where I'm basically Q-tip shaped, and maybe 115# at 5'6"

Yes, I was a hell of a lot faster back then. :-)

Until I hit 23-or-so, I clocked in at around 130#, at about half-way between 5'11" and 6'. I didn't go to any gym at all and ate like a horse. But, on the flip-side, I rode some 60-odd km on bicycle every week (20 km to work, 20 km back, rain or other commitments estimated at dropping on average 2.5 days a week) and was, well, physically active isn't an understatement.

Going swimming was interesting. Float? Not really.

That sounds about right; I ate and drank constantly during college, but was outside goofing off (playing catch, mostly) pretty much every day, and walking everywhere, and dancing on weekends.

I remember thinking that 200 g of cheese, 2 dl of (double) cream in a sauce, some 300 g of pasta, probably 150 g of ham and couple of handful of peas made for a satisfying meal. Or a load of bread, some cheese and something to go between the cheese and the bread (unsweetened peanut butter and possibly dill pickles).

I think I now eat less per day than what I ate in a single meal, back then.

Very funny :)

Cardio's about all I work on these days since I don't lift regularly anymore. While I found it really really hard to bulk up and put on muscle, it also seems impossible to get super lean just by doing lots of cardio. I would have to seriously overhaul my eating habits too.

Every time I think of muscle build-up, all I can see in my head is Captain Freedom's Workout (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LazUZz3K6IY)
