Cures/treatments for food poisoning? Anyone?

K is laid up (to the point where she had to cal off work - those of you who know her will appreciate how lousy she has to feel to do so).

Right now, if she's not able to keep water or sips of gatorade down by evening, it may be time for a trip to the hospital or some such thing. *sigh*

(culprits are currently chocolate peanut butter bars or frozen pot roast, since we shared vietnamese for dinner last night and I'm fine, other than a slight head cold).

Other than purging the system and pepermint tea to help digest (sometimes ginger can aid digestion) not really.

Stay comfy and hydrated.

Clear liquids. That's about it. My mother's a former RN, and my dad was a doctor. Whenever anyone was ill with upper g-i crud, it was all about the 7-Up and the ginger ale, period. No water, even. Just soda. Of course, if she has issues with high fructose corn syrup, that won't work, but the lack of food colors and the straight-sugar aspect of soda may be kinder to the body than Gatorade, even.

ack. my love to Ms. K.

Honestly, if she can't keep fluids down for any length of time, a call to the MD is likely in order, because dehydration is likely to be a bigger problem than the unpleasant process of ridding the body of the offending contaminant.

Other than that, I think you're supposed to avoid Pepto and such things because they slow the bacteria from leaving the body (trying not to be graphic here).

Other than ginger candy, ginger tea, ginger ale, and mint tea, I can't really think of anything else that might take the edge off.

Hope she's feeling better soon.

Ginger is wonderful for settling upset stomachs and aids in digestion. I suggest ginger tea or ginger ale.

Peppermint tea is also good for breaking fevers, soothing sore throats, eliminating heartburn, etc.

Also, if possible you could try this tea concotion:

1 part peppermint tea
1 part rosehips
1 part catnip (yes! I said catnip!)

Mix, steep as regular tea before going to bed or if you aren't going anywhere for a few hours.

The catnip will knock her out for quite a while, and the rosehips will make her sweat without raising her body temp. Therefore, she should be able to sweat out whatever it is in her system. The peppermint tea is just for added flavor and added bonuses as stated above. If anything she will have the best sleep she's had in ages. :)

If I think of anything else I will post it.

Jeagermeister. Mix it with a bit of Rumplemintz, and then aim her at a toilet or better yet just put her in a bathtub because she's going to be exploding from both ends. Wait, that only works within the first few hours... ignore that, please.

Keep cold yet de-fizzed Ginger Ale / Seven-up / Sprite / whatever present for the moments when she wants to keep things down. Asprin, if you crush it and drink it with a sip of the soda, can help with the fever, or better yet get some of the liquid children's asprin for her. That's about it, it's going to be a tough ride, alas.

Probably the potroast, depending on how thawed.

Not much to do save live through it. hydration is important, but food poisoning is normally about a 6-12 onset and gone in 24 hours, so it's not generally a huge risk. Most food poisonings are the sort that the body is really well practiced at dealing with evolutionarily. Once purged, it's a quick recovery.
